SpinCo and Ravenbane's FIrecraft has curated a smokin' hot fire handling education course, and are bringing it back again for you! This course is a crafty combination of information and entertainment taught by professional performers. 

Get answers to questions you haven't even thought of and learn the most effective techniques developed through years of fiery arts trial and error. Ravenbane’s FireCraft LLC are fire arts veterans with 10+ years of fire entertainment experience. They will be leading a highly interactive workshop (lunch provided by SpinCo!) that offers hands-on instructions and the practice of real life scenarios. Take your understanding of fire performance and fire safety to the next level and develop personal relationships with the industry's most recognized.

Course topics include

  • The spinner/performer’s relationship with fire
  • Basic and advanced concepts of the physics of fire
  • Logistics of performance spaces, including indoor spaces
  • Working with government officials
  • Theory and application of recommended safety techniques, including:
    • Double bucket fuel system
    • Fuel dump safety
    • Safety blanket considerations
    • Putting out various types of props
    • Fuel types
  • Hands on practice of safety techniques and more!

By the end of this class you will not only have built a strong enough knowledge base of fire safety to help you make better choices when playing with fire, but you will  have the confidence in your ability to react well in the case of an emergency.

 Fire Breathing Workshop: December 10th

This course is a prerequisite for classes taught by Ravenbane’s FireCraft. Shane and Amber will be teaching two workshops: Intro to Fire Breathing and Intermediate/Advanced Fire Breathing the following day. You must complete this course in order to be eligible to take those workshops. (Other fire safety certifications or safety briefings do not fulfill this requirement set forth by the instructors due to very specific reasons- feel free to email spincoalition@gmail.com).

Certification

Participants will be issued a Level 1 Certificate for Ravenbane's Fire Manipulation Safety Course upon successful completion of the course. Ravenbane's FireCraft offers a 4 level certification system.  Students are eligible to retake the course each year to increase their level of safety certification by successful demonstration of techniques and experience.


What to Bring?

  • Hair bands/ties for people with long hair
  • A desire to learn in a fun and supportive environment!

* We encourage people to bring their own props so they can practice on the equipment they own; we will also have our props for practice and demonstration of techniques - so if people don't have props that is okay. Ravenbane Firecraft will also be bringing some of our inventory/setting up a table with props for sale.

What to Wear?

Please wear fire retardant clothing. This includes any natural fibers that are form fitting. Jeans are OK! Please no jewelry or loose fitting clothing. Please avoid using hair spray or gel the day of the event. Bring close toed shoes as the workshop will be held in a warehouse that is also home to metal fabricators and wood workers. Remember that some of the class will be held outside, so dress warmly.

About the Venue

BEW Productions is located at the north end of American Street. It provides bathroom and heating as well as a private enclosed patio.


About the instructors:


Shane and Amber are co-owners of Ravenbane's FireCraft LLC - a fire performance, prop and instruction company. They have performed all over the northeast and collaborated with performers such as Flambeaux Fire of NYC - including the immersive theatrical fire performance The Calling. Shane has been the safety organizer for multiple fire and flow festivals including WildFire and Fahrenheit and is the general manager for Northeast Fire and Arts Festival in Oxford CT. Amber has also been involved in the fire & flow community as an organizer and general manager for WildFire and manager of Northeast Fire & Arts Festival.  You can find more great material from Ravenbane's Firecraft on their website and on facebook and instagram
